Sahūr (Predawn Meal) is a Blessing

Sahūr (Predawn Meal) is a Blessing

Islam is a natural religion based on moderation, middle course, and away form excessiveness. Therefore it urges to eat and drink as a predawn meal and also that the predawn meal is to be taken a little before the dawn appears; and the breaking of the fast should be soon after the sun has set, so that the time for remaining hungry and thirsty does not become prolonged needlessly, and the Prophet (Peace and Blessings be upon Him) stated it is a source of blessing.

    Sahūr is Blessing

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:
Take Sahūr, for there is a blessing in it. [Sahih Muslim (1905)]
This hadith tells us that sahur is musnun [Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him)], even if one takes a small quantity of food. This meal is blessed and maintains one's energy and vitality during the fast. Against this, if a person goes to sleep after taking his dinner to save himself  from the inconvenience of getting up before dawn or takes sahur early, he will be, on one side, disobeying the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), while on the other hand, he will be feeling hunger and thirst very early as he himself has increased the period of fasting by not taking the sahur. Subhan Allah! How the weaknesses of a man have been taken into account in the teachings of Islam while suitable provision has been provided to over come them.

    Blessed Breakfast

Al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Peace by upon him) invited me to sahur during Ramadān and said:
Come to the blessed breakfast. [Sunan Abu Dawud (2344)]
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) does not speak of his own desire, but only speaks what has been revealed to him. It is, therefore, necessary that even if a person feels no desire for food so early in the morning, he should at least have a date or a morsel or two, or even a few sips of water, in order to be a recipient of the blessing promised by the Prophet (Peace be upon him).

    You should Take Sahūr

Al-Miqdam bin Madikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:
You should take sahur for it is the blessed breakfast (ghada). [Sunan an-Nasai (2166)]
The term ghada means meal or breakfast, which is eaten in the beginning of the day. Since the predawn meal for the one fasting is synonymous to the daytime meal. In the blessed hadith, it is called the breakfast or the ghada. We could term the sahur, in our common usage as breakfast.

    Do not Neglect Sahūr

'Abdullah bin Al-Harith narrated that a man from among the companions of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

I entered upon the Prophet (Peace be upon him) when he was having Sahūr and He said:
It is a blessing that Allah has given to you, so do not neglect it. [Sunan an-Nasai (2164)].
Difference between our Fasting and the Fasting of the People of the Book
Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:
The difference between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the book is eating Sahūr. [Sahih Muslim (1096)]
